I lived in Tottenham for seven years. It was a horrible place then and it is still is now. No character, no life, no shops worth speaking off, no sense of community. It is a mono cultural area, rather than multi cultural. Apparently, even in better days Tottenham had no heart, largely because of the way it was built, all at once in instead of organically. I will never forget, just before I moved out, the Council taking over the house next door when my neighbour died. A man gleefully smashed in all the beautiful coloured glass that was an original feature and my neighbour had loved.Says it all about Tottenham, a place where the residents have no connection with it, they just live there. Not much of a place for dog owners either, people used to shy away from my beautiful beagle as if she was a rabid wolf.

This was the only way I could find to post my opinion. Reading the comments and releasing what negative connotations people have or Tottenham nearly brought tears to my eyes. I have lived in Tottenham all my life and have felt a sense of community; I also feel lucky that due to the cultural diversity in Tottenham I have learnt about other cultures - broadening my horizons. Yes I understand that there is poverty in Tottenham but I have felt a growing sense of ambition amongst my peers and others in my community to achieve something. Furthermore the portrayal of Tottenham in the media is biased and untrue; and I feel that people base their understanding of Tottenham on this when they have never even been to Tottenham. Others may have been to Tottenham once or twice, have had a negative experience and decided to once again based their understanding on this. Honestly I can't imagine growing up anywhere else, and wouldn't be where I am today and achieved what I have if I'd lived elsewhere. ... more

Born and Raised in Tottenham, and in my opinion it's a great area in terms of transport links and shopping, could do with some nice restaurants and things to do for the youth though... Only places that can be slightly dangerous are the roads surrounding Northumberland Park and Broadwater farm, the area around seven sisters station looks very rundown and does attract a few interesting characters, but they're unlikely to bother you if your minding your own business. Gang crime is still a problem, but if you're not involved in that kind of life you won't have an issue in Tottenham. Overall I think a lot of areas ranked lower in this list are a lot worse than Tottenham, as long as you mind your own business and don't go walking down Tottenham High Road at 11pm with your phone in your hand no one will bother you.

Tottenham like may other place in London has new developments that have been built but that doesn't mean it is a safe area this is an area where youths have had to grow up in poverty and crime. There have been many shootings and stabbings in the area. Any tourists doesn't matter where you come from stay away from this area luckily unlike other dangerous hoods such as hackney or Peckham; Tottenham is a mile or two away from the main tourist area's; but there is still a threat of tourists going hoods in the outskirts like Croydon or Woolwich. just remember London is a big city with allot of crime don't think that you will be safe everywhere because you wont. And that especially goes for Tottenham.

Lived here all my childhood left when I was 16. It's on if you keep yourself to yourself like all the dangerous areas listed here has a huge mixed minority but mostly Young Black and we all know Black people make every place a hole as they have no moral code and cause nothing but trouble. I would honestly say tottenham is by far the worst in London. From n15 to n17 the area is filled with gangs, estates, drugs and much more. It is an area where if your not from there you shouldn't really be visiting. It is now made to look more better like brixton and hackney but that's the government trying to hide up what is really happening. I would say the closest state to tottenham from the us is chiraq as there are many shootings and stabbings that don't make the news.
