Intelligent and not immediately infatuated with the Doctor, as many were. Also, very easy on the eyes, to say the least. Romana is one of the best characters in Who. She isn't my favourite, but certainly deserves top 10! Her independence and intelligence and absolutely logical (sometimes too logical) train of thought perfectly balance the 4th Doctor's wonderful quirkiness and apparent (sometimes) absolute disconnection from the events.
