What do you mean the fashion was good, from what I've seen the fashion was awful. And the hair and makeup for women was absolutely clown-like. I like the modern application of 80's styles more than how they were actually used in the time period. As for individualism? What about homophobia? Dislike for everything considered nerdy? From what I've read the 80's had no more individualism than later generations. People who strayed from the norm were seen as outsiders just as much as they are today, more so it seems. However, since I didn't actually live through the 80's I can't for sure say what it was truly like, but I'm sure it wasn't all sunshine and rainbows like the kids in these comments seem to think.

I was born in the '70s and I have to say I love the 80's. to this day still some of the best movies and music ever across all genre's. It was a simpler time and kids could still play outside until dark. Strangers helped make sure kids were safe instead of... well... what we have to deal with today. Mixed tapes! I loved listening to the American top 40 and recording all my favorite songs. and finally, video games, Nintendo released and the gaming world was changed forever... still some of the best games ever made. Pop culture was booming, great clothes and maybe not know for the cars they did have some that looked really cool.

The 1980's for sure. There was a sense of patriotism from teenagers up to the elders. The vast majority of the people loved and respected Ronald Reagan (He won 49 out of 50 states). The clothing and hair styles may look corny now, but every decade has its style and do we really want to go back to striped bell bottom pants and afros? America was respected by our allies and also our enemies. It was the decade in which the PC and Cell Phones were created. Most of the things we enjoy today started in the 80's. Great movies and great music. We beat Russia in Hockey and the Cold War. It was just an all around great decade.

I was born in the late 90's and it kills me to not have lived through the 80's. As a metal fan, I'll admit to not only singing along to guys like Iron Maiden Dio but to rock bands like Trixter Firehouse, rap groups like Beastie Boys Run DMC, and even pop icons like WHAM! MJ. Y'all had amazing cartoons like He-man, Transformers, Voltron, Ninja Turtles, etc. Movies like Evil Dead, Spaceballs, A Nightmare On Elm St, Ferris Bueller, Sixteen Candles, Dirty Dancing, Back To The Future, Ghostbusters, Bill Ted's Excellent Adventure, Police Academy, Predator, Alien, just to name a few, have all come from this amazing decade. Heck, y'all even had Michael Keaton as Batman! Just when you thought it couldn't get better, it does. Friends were family unlike in today's generation. If you fought, 99.9% used hands, not a firearm or a knife. Most people also seem to dread the look of 80's fashion but have any of you took a look at today's? The 80's were the absolute best! People were starting to break down social walls and acceptance yet in its infancy was on the rise. Punk rock, rap and hip hop, pop were all at their height of popularity. I was born in the 1960's and for many other reasons the 80's are by far the best time this country has ever had. It was not perfect but we were all working together to improve the country. I don't even recognize this country at the moment. It is looking more like the 1940's and 50's and everyone should take notice or you may regret it!

I missed this decade because I was born in the early 90s. Whilst I am glad I experienced the 90s, I was still young. I grew up in the 2000s, and whilst I admit the 2000s were better than now, the 80s seemed such a fun and prosperous time. One of the best things about the 80s and early 90s is that there was no internet and no chat rooms. People socialised outside. They went to parties and evening dances. We just don't have that entertainment now. Most people would rather be on the internet than having fun elsewhere.

Greatest decade in history for movies, I was born at the beginning of the decade and enjoyed all the pop culture as a child. I personally love 80s music as well, it's not for anyone but the synthesizer was running and rock ballads were on point. Political correctness hadn't reared its ugly head yet. I would say the 90s being a teenager were a close second. I think the awesome end to 20th century culture died on 9-11. Plus in my opinion the music after about 2005 is garbage. Hate me!
