What most people don't know is that Nickelodeon existed before Doug. The channel originally launched in 1977, as Pinwheel, for about two years before changing to Nick in 1979. Nickel Flicks was one of their first shows, which was a showcase for old serials from the 20s to the 40s. There were no "new" episodes after 1979. Reruns aired only until late 1980, and by mid-1980 reruns were rare. It was apparently cancelled due to complaints about the violence in the serials. Out of the original six Nick shows-Pinwheel, America Goes Bananaz, By the Way, Hocus Focus, Video Comic Book and this-Nickel Flicks was the only one to end before 1980. Not helping is the fact that before 1986, Nickelodeon was only available on QUBE, which went out of business within five years. Pinwheel was the only one to survive the switch over to regular television, and even that has never seen reruns since it ended. This all means the original Nick shows are doomed to obscurity.
