Maybe during Halo 4 the brutes attempted to take over their home planet or something? Then the flood could have come on the Spirit of Fire(or an infection form that hitched a ride on the Arbiter's ship, if the other option is not canon). Player one could be the Arbiter, while player two could be the Spec-Ops Commander(the white one with the missing jaw). The Arbiter has a background that is not seen in the games(possibly in the books) that could be shown during this game. It would probably please most of the fans out there who need a bit more of the original series in an upcoming game.
