One of their most successful missions during this deployment was the rescue of a group of civilians captured by gunmen from renegade Liberian forces. Acting on intelligence, twenty heavily armed Rangers were dropped by helicopter at the town of Gbapa. To avoid casualties among the hostages, the Rangers implemented a policy of non-lethal intervention and, after surrounding a 40-foot container holding the 35 hostages, rescued them and captured the rebel commander. The incident, which resulted in no Irish casualties, boosted the reputation of the Irish defense Forces.

Should be up more like around 15 or 10. The Irish Army Ranger Wing is the only special operations of the Irish defense Forces therefore they have more of a variety of jobs to do then other special operations. For example Russia, England, Germany, US and Canada have a lot of special operations that all have a specific field. The Army Ranger Wing has to do all the missions that every US, England, German, Russian and Canadian special operation unit by itself. So they are basically every US SOF unit combined!

These guys were stationed at Shannon Airport when Air Force One was there. They were located on the airfield itself, which is obviously flat and wide open. Short grass, no trees, bushes, buildings etc. Could you spot them! No way. Camouflage to the extreme.

There's a reason you hear very little about them...they're a neutral country! Extremely highly rated by other country's special forces after they come up against them (in competition) and usually underestimating them. Highly trained, well organised and secretive...you'll never know you're in trouble until it's too late. Punching well above their weight...possibly the best pound for pound fighting regiment in the world.

Irish ranger wing deserves 3rd or least 4th place.. they have proved their world rank against other countries and came out in the top 5 ahead of America's special forces.. they came 3rd if not mistaking.. these guys are trained to fight in the worst possible odds and win due to the fact there isn't thousands of them.. they are also so secretive that nobody or no country can find out anything about them..
