It's utterly ridiculous they didn't perform at the ceremony. While some of the other acts who performed were decent enough, a lot of them seemed like they were chosen as they were flavour of the month artists who while popular now, no-one will care about in the decades to come. Maiden however are not only popular now but have maintained high levels of quality and consistency throughout the past 40 years, and show now signs of slowing down. They spearheaded the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal in the 80's (making them one of the more important British bands in that decade in my opinion) and represent everything good about British Heavy Metal. They still produce great music now, and despite starting out in an era whose music tends to show its age, Maiden are truly timeless and are a band that makes you proud to be British.
