The Dutch Empire is one of the most underestimated empires in history. They had territories that include: Indonesia, Belgium, Luxembourg, Brazil, parts of India, Taiwan, Sri Lanka, South Africa(Afrikaans is very similar to Dutch)and many more. They entirely controlled the US states of Delaware, New Jersey, Rhode Island and Connecticut and also controlled and founded modern day New York City whose Boroughs still bear names derived from Dutch words and named(and actually used to be called New Amsterdam).
