Luckily the co-founders of the 5 Gyres Institute found the turtle in a drainage canal and cut the ring off in 1998. The turtle now lives at the Star Eco Station and her shape has improved over time. Sadly it was too late to get the bottle off of his head. He's now used in classrooms as an example to tell children not to litter. I hope the kids love him and are kind to him!
