The reason it's more dangerous than Show Jumping is because the jumps are solid. Yes, Show Jumping is dangerous, yet cross country is the same thing, except the jumps aren't dismantled when you crash into one. Thus, rotational falls are very common, and riders crashing headfirst into fences. Many horses and riders break their necks or backs on Cross Country most simply because the jumps are solid.

Cross country is so dangerous! How can showjumping be first when in cross you go faster and the jumps are solid. Surely that makes it MORE dangerous? Also it is compulsory for all cross country riders to wear a body protector and at proffessional level, an airbag as well. I watched all the Olympics cross country on T.V. and there was something like 15 falls. In showjumping there was one. Cross country is definitely more dangerous than showjumping! Cross country is defiantly dangerous I agree I do show jumping and it is dangerous but the jump does fall down and we do not go as fast. Plus there are not as many falls. But when we get up to a 6ft jump than I think that its pretty close in being just as dangerous. A lot of people that show jump don't jump that high though.

I'm an eventer so I do xc, sj and dressage and to be honest I think xc (cross country) is the most dangerous, and not just because the jumps are 'solid' but because so much can go wrong compared to showjumping, this is because you are at a much faster canter than showjumping and sometimes long distances between the jumps you do a gallop or really really fast canter, this event is timed a lot more harshly than sj so you are required to speed to the finish line and turn tight corners, have you ever wondered why we/they need so much protection? Probs because sometimes the horses can get really nervous or spooked by the different style jumps, especially water jumps, there is so many reasons why xc is just that little bit more dangerous not just because the jumps are 'solid' trust me, one of my ponies makes sj way more dangerous for me as she hits the jumps more and refuses them but will happily fling over a giant log with touching it. thanks for reading

Ok ok. Cross country. You are going 45 miles per hour, jumping the same height as show jumping BUT you have wider, solid fences! I event, so obviously I know they are both hard and dangerous, but cross country doesn't even begin to compare to show jumping! You don't even have a little area to jump for Xc, you have HUGE fields! Cross country should definitely be most dangerous!

I personly think this is the most dangerous because last year my cousins and I were doing a cross country course and one of my cousins fell over the jump and her horse landed on her... She was sent to the hospital right away and she was crushed... The next day she actually passed away.
